The Health Check - June 2024

< Return to the insights hub

Summer is here, and so are your quarterly insights from The Health Check. As always, there’s plenty to discuss, including the NHS’s consultation with NICE on a new fast-track approach to medtech innovation, and the latest UK Trust to digitise patient records. Plus, we recap an inspiring couple of days at HPN South 2024, and our exciting plans for MediViewer.

NHS and NICE consult to fast-track new medtech

Seeing the real-world impact of our EDMS MediViewer has shown us the profound difference new medtech can make for patient care and outcomes, so it’s encouraging to see the recent consultation from NHS England and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) on a new fast-track approach for developing healthcare technologies.

The consultation aims to offer greater certainty for medtech innovators and suppliers while enhancing patient outcomes. Key factors outlined in the document include the routine commissioning – and continued support – of technologies that meet specific criteria, supporting developments with robust, evidence-based advice, addressing any biases, and determining the clinical and cost-effectiveness of new medtech.

UHCW NHS Trust launch new EPR system

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust launched a new EPR system on 15 June, replacing all paper-based notes and streamlining hundreds of different systems into one, for an enhanced patient experience.

This is great news, and UHCW NHS will now have a single Trust-wide hospital record for each and every patient. There are so many benefits to digitising paper-based medical records, from improved care efficiency and accessibility to accurate patient data, to reduced errors and stronger patient data security. For a full digital transformation of the NHS, EPR combined with EDMS would truly revolutionise Trusts and patient care up and down the country.

Digital transformation on the agenda at HPN South 2024

This month, Mizaic sponsored HPN South 2024. From 27-28 June, our team attended the ever-inspiring event, which brought together an impressive cohort of NHS representatives, senior leaders, and suppliers, all of whom brought insightful debates and discussions to the table. Key panels focused on AI in healthcare, digital transformation at scale, and harnessing the benefits of data platforms.

Our solutions lead Mike Steel and commercial lead Jamie Hall enjoyed meeting attendees over the two days, as well as giving demos of our EDMS MediViewer, which is helping NHS Trusts to transform digitally. If you didn’t get a chance to contact, get in touch to book a demo and we’ll be happy to walk you through this gamechanging software.

Mizaic’s plans to scale digital transformation further

Following Mizaic’s HealthTech 50 ranking, our CEO Jon Pickering talked to Business Cloud about plans to double the amount of healthcare professionals implementing our MediViewer platform. Currently, our scalable patient medical record library is the EDMS of choice for more than 100,000 organisations and 20 million patients throughout the UK – digitising the medical records of 10% of acute hospitals in the country.

Jon told Business Cloud: “With the recent government announcement of new funding streams dedicated to facilitating the end-to-end digitisation of patient records, EDMS solutions like ours are fundamental. Let’s hope the future is even brighter for our business and the NHS.”
