60 seconds with… Catriona McGill, service delivery and support manager

< Return to the insights hub

Here at Mizaic, our team of experts is the heartbeat of everything we do. They are what make the digital transformation projects for the country’s NHS Trusts possible, and many of them have learned — and first-hand — experience within the healthcare sector.

This month, we’re putting the spotlight on service delivery and support manager Catriona McGill, as she talks of the part she’s playing in revolutionising the healthcare industry, and highlights why the EPR vs EDMS discussion is so important.

How is Mizaic and/or your role helping to revolutionise the healthcare industry?

In my role as service delivery and support manager, I am constantly looking at ways to improve the customer experience of, not just our product, but the full wraparound of support and how we deliver the best to our customers. MediViewer is so critical to our customers and the patients themselves, if the clinicians, for example, can’t access the required records, patients will be impacted and that reflects back on us all within the business, as we are so passionate about delivering the best service and support. We want to provide an electronic document management solution (EDMS) that’s built for clinicians and works the way they need and want it to.

What’s your favourite feature of MediViewer and why?

Integration – the ability of the integration with third-party clinical systems, creating a single version of the truth for the patient information.

What’s one EDMS myth you hear that you want to debunk?

The misunderstanding of what our solution/product is – it’s the EPR vs EDMS discussion. An electronic patient record (EPR) system is implemented to boost care quality and patient experience. It offers real-time access to patient information, digitally – so of course, there are similarities with an EDMS. However, EPR systems alone will not support the vision for a wholly paperless NHS. EDMS technology serves as a digital library to house billions of pieces of vital patient information. MediViewer was built specifically for the NHS and enables healthcare professionals to seamlessly scan, index and archive medical records. The two systems support one another but, importantly, an EPR cannot function effectively without an EDMS in place.

What’s the best piece of career advice you have been given?

Go after what you want, don’t let your fears hold you back. Believe you can do it and you will.

If one of your colleagues could win an award (work or ‘fun’), who would it be and why?

Rob Ainsworth – he is a fountain of knowledge for MediViewer and our customers, but also shares my love of fast food when in the office together!

If you could only have three apps on a smartphone, which would you pick?

A health app to track my sleep, food and exercise habits, as well as a music app, as my son loves to sing on the way to nursery. Plus, I’d keep a fast food app, as it’s nice to have a treat night off cooking.
